A short consulting engagement needs a defined question, evidence gathering, an output and a clear handoff.

Question and outcome

State the decision the client needs to make, such as which process bottlenecks to address first. Distinguish recommendations from implementation.

Discovery

Specify how many stakeholder interviews and documents are included. Identify who arranges access and when materials must arrive.

Deliverables and review

Describe the process map, findings, prioritized recommendations and handoff meeting. State whether one consolidated review is included.

Boundaries and payment

Exclude travel, implementation and ongoing support unless priced separately. Divide payment by kickoff and delivery milestones.
